1 Corinthians 1:1-9
In 1 Corinthians 1:1–9, the apostle Paul introduces himself as one called by God's will to be an apostle of Jesus Christ, writing with Sosthenes. He addresses the church in Corinth as believers who have been sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be God's holy people, together with all who call on the Lord's name.
Paul greets them with grace and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. He then thanks God continually for the grace shown to them through Christ. He acknowledges that they have been enriched in every way, particularly in speech and knowledge, and that the message about Christ has been firmly confirmed among them.
Because of God's grace, the Corinthians do not lack any spiritual gift as they eagerly await the return of Jesus Christ. Paul expresses confidence that Christ will sustain them to the end so that they will be blameless on the day of His return. He concludes this opening thanksgiving by affirming that God is faithful, and it is God who has called them into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
