1 John 3:1-3

What does it mean to truly be loved by God? Not loved in the way we love each other, which is fragile, conditional, and imperfect, but loved with a holiness and purity that defies human comprehension. That is the question at the heart of 1 John 3:1-3, where John calls us to stop and genuinely behold, to take in what is on display, the staggering reality that the Father has lavished His love on us and called us His children. This is not a love that was earned or given in response to anything we did. It was the first move, extended to us while we were still enemies, still lost in sin. The Greek word technon reminds us that we are not just adopted in a legal sense, we are born into God's family, carrying His spiritual DNA. These two truths, adoption and birth, seem to contradict each other, yet in Christ they are both fully real. As we reflect on this, we are invited to pause and let the weight of it settle. In a single moment of faith, everything changes. Sin is gone, a name is written in the Lamb's Book of Life, and a person who was headed toward eternal separation from God becomes a child of the Most High King. If we have grown so familiar with that truth that it no longer moves us, it may be time to check our spiritual pulse.
