1 John 1:1-4

This powerful exploration of 1 John takes us into the heart of what it means to encounter Christ as a real, tangible person rather than a distant spiritual concept. We discover John writing as an elderly witness who actually walked with Jesus, heard His voice, and touched His hands. The central message confronts the ancient Gnostic heresy that denied Christ's physical body, but it speaks directly to us today about the reality of our faith. John uses the Greek word 'logos' - the highest form of divine reasoning and communication - to describe Jesus as God's ultimate message to humanity. What's remarkable is that God didn't wait for us to climb up to Him; instead, He descended to us, making Himself touchable and knowable. This transforms everything about our relationship with God. We're reminded that Christianity isn't about following cunningly devised fables or legends, but about eyewitness testimony to historical events. The sermon beautifully illustrates how Christ was approachable - children weren't afraid of Him, outcasts felt comfortable around Him, and His voice was likely gentle rather than intimidating. This manifestation of God in flesh gives us three incredible gifts: fellowship with each other as brothers and sisters in Christ, direct communion with God Himself, and a joy that transcends our circumstances. When we truly grasp that the Creator of the universe became human to save us, our complaints about temporary troubles fade in comparison to the eternal security we possess.
