Matthew 28:16-20
What does it truly mean to walk in the authority of Christ? At the heart of the Great Commission in Matthew 28 lies a call that is far more than a religious duty -- it is the defining mission of every believer and every local church body. We are not isolated individuals who happen to attend the same building on Sundays. We are a collective unit, called together to make Christ known from our own neighborhoods to the ends of the earth. This message cuts through the noise of comfortable Christianity and asks us a direct question: what is actually preventing us from stepping into that mission? Fear, isolation, and materialism are identified as the three great barriers that keep us on the sidelines. And the antidote to each one is rooted in something profoundly simple -- trusting that all authority in heaven and on earth belongs to Jesus Christ. When Pilate declared his power to crucify, the Lord's response in John 18 was not a plea but a declaration: that power was only his because it had been given from above. That same truth applies to every government, every cultural pressure, and every fear that tempts us to stay silent. We are invited to stop treating our careers, our comfort, and our possessions as the sum total of our lives, and to start seeing them for what they are -- a means to a far greater end.
